The Seremban gurdwara received RM50,000 from the Negeri Sembilan state government for renovation of its Punjabi language centre building.

Gurdwara Sahib Seremban (GSS), the Sikh place of worship built in 1905, has almost completed the renovation of its building dedicated for the teaching of the Punjabi language.

“We had to tear down the old two-storey wooden building which used to house the Khalsa English School as it was infested with termites.

“The new structure is modern and would be able to serve the needs of our community better,” GSS committee president Mulkeeth Singh was quoted in a report in The Star.

When contacted, Mulkeeth told Asia Samachar that the NS Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan was passionate about education.

“In our short interaction with him, we could see that he was very keen about education,” he said.

Mohamad said the state government had been giving Sikhs an annual allocation to enable them to carry out their programmes, including holding language carnivals.

“It is our hope that they are able to successfully complete the project which they started a couple of months ago for the benefit of the Sikh community,” he said, according to The Star report.
