Singapore Sikh Welfare Council (SIWEC) has received S$20,000 in donations from two Chinese clans.

The cheques, S$10,000 each, came from the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan and the Alliance for Betterment of Community, Jiangsu Association (Singapore).

The cheques were presented at an event on 11 Nov 2017, organised under the umbrella of Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA), witnessed by Education Minister Ong Ye Kung.

“Such contributions go a long way in helping our work,” SIWEC chairman Gurdip Singh Usma told Asia Samachar.

SFCCA, inaugurated in 1986 under the joint sponsorship of a number of Singapore Chinese clan associations, aims to promote understanding and appreciation of Chinese language, culture and values, to strengthen cooperation among the clan associations, as well as to organise and support educational, cultural and community activities.

On its part, SIWEC’s objectives are to carry out and manage welfare schemes in the form of relief, financial assistance, health, education, housing or any other help for those requiring assistance within the Singapore community. Its stated mission is to improve the welfare and well-being of the community.

In an earlier event, SIWEC also received a S$10,000 donation from the Hsin Tao Foundation on the 70th birthday of Master Hsin Tao.
