The centennial celebration for Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara Singapore (SGSS) will climax with a major celebration on Sunday (24 June 2018), with a presence of a special guest from the government.
The SGSS will be celebrating its centennial year with an event from 9am to 2pm at the Mt Emily Park, the open ground adjacent to the gurdwara at Upper Wilkie Road.
The celebrations will see the Singapore Sikh Sangat and fellow citizen come together to witness the unveiling of the gurdwara’s Centennial 100 years plaque, according to a statement released to Asia Samachar.
For the last one year, the team at the gurdwara has been conducting various programmes as a run-up to its centennial celebration which will also showcase an exhibition on SGSS’s 100 years journey. The Gurdwara, designated as a charitable organisation, was established on 25 June 1918.

“SGSS has always been in the forefront of organising and participating in the Sikh religious activities and has been a beacon for the teaching of the Panjabi Language, which today, is one of the South Asian Languages recognised by the government.
“The SGSS has positioned its self as an inclusive gurdwara with support to various organisations like the Sikh Welfare Council (SIWEC), Singapore Sikh Education Foundation (SSEF), Sikh Institutions and several other institutions involving the wider Singapore community,” it said in the statement.
The celebration will also see the launch of a commemorative centennial coffee table book documenting activity of its early years.
“Our wish is to see more Sikh youths to come through the ranks of our new generations to carry the baton passed on to us by our predecessors and bring greater glory to our community by participating passionately in our gurdwara, religious and cultural activities,” it said.
A Centennial Akhand Paath will be held from Thursday (21 June). The path da bhog to be held on 23 June (Saturday) which will be followed with an ardas for the many weekly Japji and other prayers that started a year ago by the Sangat.
