Jagwinder Singh was born without arms but he cycles some 50 to 80 kilometres a day. That’s quite a feat for the 27 year-old who was born in a small village called Patran near Patiala, Punjab.
This weekend, Jagwinder will join a charity bicycle ride from Malacca to Singapore.
Organised by Ride To Serve, the cyclists will cover a 100km distance from Malacca to Batu Pahat, Johor, on Saturday (16 March 2019). The next day, they will cycle 160km from Batu Pahat to Singapore.
The event, which started in 2014, aims to raise funds for Sikh Welfare Council Singapore (SIWEC). They encourage others to contribute to the cause as well.
Jagwinder will certainly adds colour to the ride this year. And he has quite a story to tell.
As a young boy, it was seeing his sister cycling that gave birth to the desire of riding it himself. Every night he would sneak out of his home, trying to balance and ride through the lanes of his locality. It was only after numerous falls, hard work and dedication that he was capable to peddle down the streets alone.
Today, Jagwinder proudly owns various awards and has received recognition in cycling at district and state level. His dream: To win the gold medal in the Paralympic cycling race.
