Re :Inaccurate and deceptive Statement
There is an inaccurate and deceptive statement out in the whatsapp by NIKETAN that Prof. Inder Singh Ghagga is banned by Akal Takhat from speaking in Gurdwaras.
The actual facts are as below:-
- A complaint was sent by the Ontario Sikh and Gurdwara Council (OSGC) and others to Akal Takht relating to a book considered offensive.
- The Ontario Sikh and Gurdwara Council than met with Prof. Inder Singh Ghagga on 20-10-2006 and after a lengthy discussion and all questions being answered fairly including apology tendered by the professor and undertaking given by him to do changes requested in the forthcoming edition of the book.
This matter was then considered closed by the COMPLAINANT. Ontario Sikh and Gurdwara Council. (Refer to Appendix-A attached)
They subsequently informed Akal Takht about it.
- Meanwhile, the next day on 21-10-2006 in ignorance of matter having been resolved a day earlier, a Sandesh was issued by Akal Takht requiring Professor Ji to express regret and not to carry on with such writing.
[ Note : This Sandesh had been complied with by the Professor one day earlier ] (Refer to Appendix-B attached).
- Our enquiry and research on internet shows that no Hukamnama was then issued against Prof. Inder Singh, proving that the COMPLAINANT had communicated to Akal Takht about the agreement reached a day earlier and the apology given by Prof. Inder Singh.
- Thus, it is clear that only making public Akal Takht letter (Appendix-B), without including Appendix-A which shows compliance with conditions set by Akal Takht is clear DECEPTION on the Sanggat.
- Thus, there is no Hukamnama from Akal Takht barring Prof. Inder Singh Ghagga Ji. The Sandesh issued by Akal Takht which is advisory in nature has been complied with and matter of the Sandesh has been considered resolved.
Thus, the persons protesting, should tell Sanggat the truth based on Appendix-A and Appendix-B and that the matter was resolved by the complainant and Akal Takht informed.
The MGC will write to Akal Takht next week to confirm that the matter relating to Sandesh against Inder Singh Ghagga was resolved in 2006, as stated above.
