A seasoned Sikh lawyer has been appointed to the disciplinary committee of Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) under its major shakeup with the coming on board of the Johor crown prince as its new boss.
Baljit Singh Sidhu, a seasoned criminal litigation lawyer and a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) panel member, will head the FAM standing committee for disciplinary for the 2017-2021 term, along with Dr Abd Shukor Ahmad.
“This is my first time working directly with FAM,” Baljit tells Asia Samachar in a telephone conversation. “In discipline, there is no compromise. It runs across the board.”

Crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim took over FAM leadership on 25 March 2017 in a bid to take Malaysian soccer out of its current low.
Baljit, an experienced criminal litigation lawyer who co-founded Messrs. Shukor Baljit & Partners, was appointed in April 2016 to MACC’s Consultation and Prevention of Corruption Panel (PPPR).
In June 2016, he was elected deputy presidency of SSU Kelab Aman, a Sikh sports club which manages sporting facilities at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from University of London, a Master’s Degree (LLM) from University Of Malaya and a Diploma in Syariah Law & Practice (DSLP) from International Islamic University.
