Malaysian high jumper Nauraj Singh Randhawa aim to finish in the top 12 at the World Championships.
But he has bigger dreams. Nauraj’s ‘ultimate aim’ is to be an Olympic medallist.
“I’m looking to Tokyo 2020. The next two or three years will be important to achieve that aim,” he tells New Sunday Times in an interview a day after his spectacular performance in Singapore.
On Thursday (27 April 2017), the winner of gold medal at SEA Games of 2013 and 2015 broke the national record for the second time. He cleared a 2.30m at the Singapore Open.
“I have to keep doing what I am doing. It does not mean that now that I have reached this level, I start doing something different. I cannot neglect or forget those things I have done to get me where I am,” he tells Devinder Singh in the interview. (Sunday Chat: Nauraj’s Olympic medal dream, see here).
The report noted that Nauraj is one of the few Malaysian track and field athletes withy the potential to reach world standards.
Already an Olympian, Nauraj has assured himself of making his World Championships debut on merit in London in August after breaking the national record a second time, it said.
